Event Description
The Kaliba Ensemble, an internationally acclaimed collective of multidisciplinary artists from East Africa, takes up residence at RICA Arts Space in Hong Kong from August 14 to December 30. This four-month residency invites audiences into a vibrant, living archive of African expression—where rhythm meets ritual, and stories are shared through sound, voice, and flavor.
The residency will include:
African Poetry & Spoken Word – Performances that share powerful stories about culture, identity, and community.
Tuned Percussion & Traditional Instruments – Hands-on workshops and performances that highlight the rich rhythms and instruments of East Africa.
Singing & Folk Songs – Group singing and folk traditions shared in many languages, bringing people together through music.
African Food & Tasting Events – Enjoy traditional dishes while learning about the stories and meaning behind them.
This special series will also include public performances, artist talks, school workshops, and community events—giving audiences a chance to learn, share, and celebrate African heritage in creative and interactive ways.
